Notre-Dame Cathedral is committed to welcoming all visitors. The restoration has included improvements to accessibility where possible within the constraints of this historic building.

Wheelchair Access

The ground floor of the cathedral is fully wheelchair accessible. Ramps and level access points have been provided at the main entrance. The nave, choir, and most chapels on the ground level can be visited by wheelchair users.

Tower Access

The towers are NOT accessible for visitors with mobility difficulties. The climb involves 387 narrow spiral stone steps with no elevator. There are no rest areas or alternative access routes to the top.

Assistance for Visitors with Disabilities

    • Priority access: Visitors with disabilities and their companions may receive priority access. Present your disability card at the entrance.
    • Audio descriptions: Audio description services are available for visually impaired visitors.
    • Tactile models: Tactile scale models of the cathedral may be available to help blind and visually impaired visitors understand the architecture.
    • Seating: Chairs are available inside the cathedral for visitors who need to rest.
    • Accessible toilets: Accessible toilet facilities are available near the cathedral.

Getting There with Reduced Mobility

Metro station Cité (line 4) is the closest but may have limited step-free access. Saint-Michel-Notre-Dame (RER B/C) may offer better accessibility. Check the RATP website for the latest information on accessible stations. Taxis can drop you directly at the parvis.
