Shoulders and knees must be covered. Hats should be removed inside. Avoid excessively casual or revealing clothing. This is strictly enforced as Notre-Dame is an active place of worship.

Photography

Personal photography is allowed without flash. Tripods, selfie sticks, and professional equipment require prior authorisation. Video recording may be restricted during services.

Silence & Respect

Maintain a respectful silence inside the cathedral, especially during services. Phone calls should be taken outside. Keep your phone on silent mode.

Bags & Security

All bags are subject to security screening at the entrance. Large suitcases and oversized bags are not permitted. There is no bag storage facility at the cathedral.

Can I bring food and drinks inside?
No. Food and drinks (including water bottles) are not permitted inside the cathedral. There are cafés and restaurants nearby on the Île de la Cité and in the Latin Quarter.
Are pets allowed?
No, pets are not allowed inside Notre-Dame Cathedral. Service animals for visitors with disabilities are the only exception.
What happens if I don't meet the dress code?
You may be asked to cover up before entering. It is advisable to carry a light scarf or shawl in case you need to cover your shoulders. Entry may be refused if the dress code is not met.
Is there a cloakroom or luggage storage?
There is no cloakroom or luggage storage at Notre-Dame. If you are travelling with large bags, consider leaving them at your hotel or using a luggage storage service near Gare de Lyon or Châtelet-Les Halles.
