Tour Options at Notre-Dame
While the cathedral interior is free to visit, guided tours offer deeper insight into the 860-year history, the architectural innovations, and the extraordinary 2024 restoration.
Cathedral Interior Tours
Licensed guides lead group and private tours of the cathedral interior, covering the nave, choir, chapels, rose windows, and the stories behind the art and architecture. Tours are available in multiple languages including English, French, Italian, Spanish, and German. A typical interior tour lasts 60 to 90 minutes.
Tower Climbs
The famous tower climb takes you up 387 steps to the top of the twin towers (69 metres), where you can see the gargoyles and chimeras up close and enjoy panoramic views of Paris. Note: there is no elevator. Tower access requires a separate ticket and may have limited availability post-restoration.
Treasury Tours
The cathedral treasury houses sacred relics, religious art, and liturgical vestments. Highlights include the Crown of Thorns (displayed on certain occasions), ornate chalices, and historical manuscripts. The treasury has a separate admission fee.
Archaeological Crypt Tours
Beneath the parvis (the square in front of Notre-Dame), the Crypte archéologique displays archaeological remains from the Gallo-Roman era to the 19th century. The crypt has a separate entrance on the square and its own admission fee.
